Team Squash

We’re looking for players to join our Lilleshall squash and Racketball / Squash 57 teams for the coming season.

Whether you’re an experienced league player or simply fancy giving competitive team squash or Racketball a go, we’d love to hear from you.

Squash

We currently have one team playing in the Staffordshire Squash League, with matches played on Wednesday evenings.

Matches are a great opportunity to represent the club, meet other players and enjoy some competitive squash,  so come along and support the players when you can.

Racketball / Squash 57

We also have a Division 2 Racketball / Squash 57 team in the Shropshire League.

There are three players in a team, and we’re looking for players who can play Racketball to a good standard and, most importantly, are keen to get involved and play regularly.

Match Information

Match night: Wednesday evenings

Start time: 7:30pm promptly

Team size: 3 players

Away matches: The majority of our away fixtures are in the Shrewsbury area

Venues: Matches may be played at Shrewsbury Rugby Club, around 25 minutes from Newport, or at Shrewsbury Schools around 35 minutes

Hospitality: Details of food and hospitality will be confirmed

Match Fees: To be confirmed for the season

Refereeing

As part of playing in the league, there is an expectation that players will referee one of the matches during the evening.

Don’t worry if you haven’t refereed before. We’ll help you with this and make sure you know what you’re doing. The aim is to make it straightforward and ensure everyone gets involved in running the team matches.

This applies to both our Squash and Racketball / Squash 57 teams.

You’ll also be invited to the team group chat, where players can discuss fixtures, availability and results.

As usual, team results will also be shared with the wider club through the Lilleshall WhatsApp group.

Before You Can Play

To be eligible to play in the league, you must have a valid England Squash number.

We need this number to register you on SportyHQ, which is used to manage the league and team fixtures.

If you don’t have a valid England Squash number, we cannot add you to the team and you won’t be able to play in league matches.

Don’t Have an England Squash Number?

It’s straightforward to get one.

Visit the England Squash website and create an account.

Choose the Just Play membership option, which currently costs £15.

Once you’ve registered, you’ll have your England Squash number.

You can then text your number directly to us, and we’ll take care of adding you to the team on SportyHQ.

Lilleshall Squash and Racketball Club are set to compete against a series of other clubs throughout the Shropshire and Staffordshire areas in the squash league.

The squash team always welcomes friendly support, so come along and support the players when you can, and see some great matches being played. Home matches are played on Courts Four and Five (Glassbacks) at Lilleshall National Sports Centre.

The Lilleshall SRC B team reached the final of the Squash Division C Cup last weekend and will contest the trophy as part of Shropshire Squash’s Finals Night on Friday 5 Apr 2019 at the Shropshire Squash Club in Shrewsbury.

The Shropshire Squash Club will open their doors this Friday ahead of the grand final matches, which will start promptly at 6:00pm. Teams and their spectators are encouraged to arrive early to avoid any unnecessary delays to the proceedings.

Lilleshall SRC B will face Llanfyllin SC C in their final match, having overcome Shropshire SC E with a 3-2 win in their semi-final match last Saturday evening. That match also took place at the Shropshire Squash Club, which is based near Shrewsbury School in Kingsland.

The Squash Division A and B Cup Finals will also be taking place on the same evening, with some of our county’s best squash players taking part. The A Cup Final will feature Bishops Castle A v Llanfyllin SC A and the B Cup Final will involve Shropshire SC C v Brookside A.

There will be trophies presented after the conclusion of the cup finals to the winning teams and the Squash League championship winning sides will also be presented with their silverware.

The League(s) trophy presentation will also take place as follows:

• Racketball league: Winner – TBC
• Squash Division 1: Winner – Llanfyllin A. Runner Up: Wolverhampton A
• Squash Division 2: Winner – Bridgnorth. Runner Up: Brookside A
• Squash Division 3: Winner – Unfortunately we are unable to present Division 3 trophies as the League Division 3 does not complete until after the finals night. Division 3 trophies will therefore be presented at the End of Season Review Meeting (ESRM) on the 9th May 2019 at the Shrewsbury SRC (by kind permission).
